HMB Welcomes Four Distinguished Lawyers

Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel, LLP has welcomed three attorneys to the Miami, Florida office and one to the Tampa, Florida office.  Gilda Chavez, Matthew O'Brien, Jessica Calvo, and Julie Cunningham each bring their own unique expertise and perspective to the firm's specialized areas of practice.

Gilda M. Chavez, a litigator with 19 years of experience, ten of which were as in-house legal counsel for two major insurance companies, has joined HMB's litigation practice group.  Her  experience includes trying numerous bench and jury trials and supervising the caseload of ten attorneys at a Florida-based insurance company.  Ms. Chavez will be defending personal injury, property and casualty, marine, and vehicle fraud matters.

Ms. Chavez is a member of the Florida Bar and is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Matthew P. O'Brien joins Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel, LLP following five years working with well-known defense attorney, Roy Black, where he worked on high-profile, complex commercial litigation, civil trial, and appeals in state and federal court.  He also handled corporate transactional work.  He joins the firm's litigation and corporate practice groups.

Mr. O'Brien is a member of the Florida Bar and is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Jessica Calvo graduated from law school in 2007 and comes to Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel, LLP from a Miami trial firm.  She will be working in HMB's litigation practice group and handling personal injury, medical malpractice, commercial litigation, and admiralty claims.  

Ms. Calvo is a member of both the New York and Florida bars.  She is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Julie Cunningham is a recent law school graduate and native Floridian.  During law school, she worked in the legal department of a Florida based insurance company where she gained expertise in legal research and drafting motions, answers, and discovery.  Ms. Cunningham will be working in the area of admiralty and maritime law in the firm's Tampa, Florida office. 

She is a member of the Florida Bar, the Tampa Bay Mariners Club, and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
